Interlaken, surrounded by mountains, Thun lake (Thunersee) and Brienz lake (Brienzersee), is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Switzerland. We reached Interlaken in the afternoon and planned to visit Harder Kulm - the top of Interlaken. A popular saying is "If Interlaken had a king, he would reside on the Harder Kulm". A modern funicular from the Harder railway valley station took us all the way up to 1322 metres above sea level. The place had a spectacular view of the entire Interlaken region, the lakes on both sides and the Jungfrau mountains. We would have definitely gone for paragliding (tourists have many options including paragliding and sky diving offered by various companies) if we had more time to spend here. We had a different plan in mind though. The next morning we would dive deeper into the unparalleled beauty of the Jungfrau region.

Next, we went to lake Brienz which touches Interlaken on the east. The lake can also be seen in the picture above. The serene beauty of the lake kept us in awe as we silently sat on its banks immersed in the tranquility.

While coming back to our hotel on the banks of Aare river, we visited Höhematte, a popular park in the middle of Interlaken with nice views of the Jungfrau. We also went to see the statue of Yash Chopra, the famous Bollywood director, who made Switzerland popular among Indians by shooting some of his most popular films in this region.
